12 Awkward Days of Christmas

Brian Henson has created a new brand, "Miskreant Puppets", allowing him to do things the Muppets could never do. (Especially now that they are owned by Disney.) Not meant for kids, but I wouldn't say NSFW.

ELO - Mr Blue Sky2012 Video

Wonderful fun video created by animation students and directed by Mike Patterson. It was done with Jeff Lynne's permission, and features newly remastered audio. This is uplifting stuff. Makes me remember the days when you could turn on MTV and see really surprising artistic music videos every now and then. Crank up the headphones and enjoy!

Animatronics: Gustav Hoegen's Reel

The work of Gustav Hoegen, with credits including; Prometheus, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Clash of the Titans, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Doctor Who and more. It's astounding the amount of engineering and artistry that goes into these illusions. CGI affords artists some great tools, but there will always be room for excellent practical effects like these.

The Breakfast Machine

One of my favorite, just plain goofy moments in the history of cinema.

Destino

Walt Disney and Salvador Dali's "Destino 2003" Begun, but abandoned during their lifetimes, this was completed and released in 2003.

Billy West: Voiceover Genius

Great interview with Billy West, man of many voices on Futurama, as well as the voice of Doug, and of course Stimpy. He's also the go-to guy for recreating classic voices like Bugs Bunny and Popeye,

The Lego Story

A family tells the history of their toy business and the evolution of Lego., in an interesting animated documentary form. As if they hired some PIXAR alumni to make the story more accessible. A little long, but interesting.

A wonderful minimalist animation. Maybe it's not always important to prove your point?

Click the link to see this full screen on Vimeo. This is a powerful surreal animation. This one was done independently by Heliofant without any corporate or government funding. Wow.

"Epic"

Based on "The Leaf Men" by author William Joyce. This looks to have a lot of potential.

Leroy Neiman has died.

Artist Leroy Neiman has died. I remember during the 1976 Olympics his art was everywhere. He also invented the "Femlin" cartoon on the Playboy joke page. Handlebar mustaches everywhere will be flown at half-mast today.

Elvis Needs Boats! Elvis Needs Boats!

"Elvis is everywhere!" by Mojo NIxon. I'm posting this one for my kids. They grew up singing along in the car to Mojo and Skid Roeper singing "Pirate Radio." ...And remember, avoid the Bermuda Triangle, cause "Elvis Needs Boats!"

Bender as Luke?

The best cartoon voices in the business assembled at Comicon. Together they do a table read from the Star Wars radio play. Bender as Luke? Bubbles as Vader? Pinky as a Storm Trooper? Christopher Walken as R2-D2? Wow.

Indiana Jones Old and New

This cool video shows side-by-side shots to demonstrate all the early cinema references used by Spielberg in planning the opening act of "Raiders of the Lost Ark".  It's true that everything is a re-mix. But what a remix!

Kinetic Creatures

Kinetic Creatures is a KickStarter project from the creative team of Lucas Ainsworth and Alyssa Hamel. Looking like minimalist Theo Jansen sculptures, these toys will be available in pre-cut kits, with a turn handle.

Three basic kits are available, an Elephant, a Rhino, and a Giraffe. For an additional fee, an optional gearbox / motor assembly can be had.

Like an animated blank slate, these toys are the perfect canvas for Art Students to decorate and embellish. Perfect for hours of creative fun!

Mel Blanc: Man of a Thousand Voices

His life story is one of perseverance. At first, Warner Bros would not even let him audition. He had to wait for the guy in charge to die before he got his foot in the door. He kept working, even from a hospital bed, with nearly every bone in his body broken. He spent his spare time doing his characters for kids in burn units and hospitals. A great method actor and comedian, he helped define the cartoon medium as we know it. He was a major fixture in the golden age of radio. A lot of modern sarcastic comics owe him a huge debt.

All Four Stooges.

You read right. Moe, Larry, Curly, and Shemp together. There was one short, "Hold that Lion", filmed after "Curly" Howard's health problems sidelined him. Shot so he could remain seated and still perform, and absent his usual razor-close haircut. All were brothers, except for Larry Fine.

Later, often forgotten members of the "3" Stooges were Joe Palma (doubling Shemp after a heart attack), Joe Besser, Joe "Curly-Joe" DeRita, and Emil Sitka, who subbed for Larry when he suffered a series of strokes.

Ancient Computer Animation Tech.

This one's for all my 3d and 2d digital Animator friends. See how it was done back in 1971, with stone knives and bear skins.
